Description

Build custom speaker cables with Canare 4S11G OFC

Canare 4S11G Grey is a four-conductor star-quad speaker cable with oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductors for custom amplifier-to-passive-speaker connections. Each conductor is 14 AWG. Combining two conductors for each polarity provides a listed paired cross-sectional area of 4.3 mm² per leg, not 4.3 mm² per individual wire.

This is the 4S11G OFC version, not simply another jacket color of standard 4S11. Its flexible Grey PVC jacket resists bending and twisting for practical routing and handling.

Ordering by the foot

Sold by the foot in a continuous length. Enter the total feet needed: quantity 25 means one 25-foot piece. This is unterminated bulk cable; connectors are not included. Allow extra length for routing, termination, and service loops.

Choose your conductor version or color

  • 4S11G Grey OFC (this listing): Oxygen-free copper conductors with a Grey jacket.
  • 4S11 Grey: The standard 4S11 model with a Grey jacket.
  • 4S11 Black: The standard 4S11 model with a Black jacket.

OFC identifies the conductor material; it is not a guarantee of an audible improvement in every system.

Understand the star-quad wiring

The star-quad arrangement helps reduce magnetic-field radiation from speaker cables into nearby low-level signal cables when wired appropriately. It does not eliminate the need for sensible cable routing.

For conventional paired wiring, combine the two conductors of each matching color for one polarity, maintaining consistent polarity at both ends. Follow the amplifier, speaker, and connector manufacturers' wiring instructions. Four conductors do not automatically suit every bi-wire, bi-amp, or bridged-amplifier configuration.

Check your application and connector fit

The 10.7 mm outside diameter and paired conductor size are important compatibility checks. Confirm that connector entries, strain relief, and terminals accept the jacket and your chosen conductor arrangement. Secure the outer jacket rather than relying on the electrical connections for mechanical support, keep stray strands clear of adjacent terminals, and test continuity and shorts before connecting equipment.

Choose cable length and wiring to suit amplifier output, speaker impedance, and acceptable cable loss. This is speaker cable, not a substitute for shielded microphone or instrument cable.
