Description

Custom 8-Channel XLR-to-RCA Audio Snake with Canare MS202-8P

Keep eight unbalanced analog audio connections organized between compatible XLR and RCA equipment. Performance Audio custom builds this snake using Canare MS202-8P cable and professional connectors, with length, labeling, and finishing options to suit your studio, rack, or playback setup.

Built for Your Connections

  • Canare MS202-8P 8-channel audio snake cable.
  • XLR connections at one end and RCA connections at the other, using the professional connector options available for this build.
  • Eight separate unbalanced mono audio paths.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom-built finished assembly, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Eight Mono Channels or Four Stereo Pairs

Each channel provides one independent mono connection. A stereo connection normally uses two channels, one for left and one for right, so this snake can connect four stereo pairs when the equipment has separate compatible left and right ports.

The channels remain separate: this assembly does not mix signals, split an output, or combine outputs. The XLR-to-RCA designation describes the connector arrangement rather than a fixed signal direction. Connect each source output to the appropriate destination input, using the correct XLR gender for your equipment. Never join two active outputs together.

Confirm XLR Gender, Wiring, and Levels

Check the required XLR gender and actual function of every equipment port before ordering. An XLR connection may carry microphone-level or line-level analog audio, or a different signal format. Match the source level to the destination; changing connectors does not provide microphone preamplification, line-to-mic attenuation, impedance matching, or conversion between consumer and professional operating levels.

The RCA connection makes this an unbalanced configuration; an XLR connector does not make the complete path balanced. When connecting a balanced output to an unbalanced input, follow the equipment manufacturer's wiring guidance and confirm the required treatment of the unused signal conductor with our custom cable specialists. Do not assume one balanced-to-unbalanced wiring arrangement is suitable for every output.

This passive snake does not balance an unbalanced source or provide transformer isolation. A microphone still requires a suitable microphone input or preamp; an RCA line input does not become a microphone input when connected through this assembly.

Analog RCA Is Not Phono, Digital, or Video Conversion

RCA sockets can carry line-level analog audio, phono-level signals, coaxial S/PDIF digital audio, or video. Confirm each socket's actual function rather than relying on connector fit. This snake is intended for compatible analog audio connections, not conversion between those formats.

A turntable requiring a phono preamp still needs the appropriate preamp and any required grounding arrangement. This assembly does not provide RIAA equalization or phono-to-line conversion. Low-level cartridge signals can have specific capacitance and grounding requirements, so discuss direct turntable-to-phono-input use before ordering.

This is not a specified 75-ohm coaxial S/PDIF or video assembly, and it does not convert coaxial S/PDIF to balanced AES/EBU. Choose an appropriate digital cable and conversion or impedance-matching equipment where required.

Phantom Power and Specialized Applications

Do not use this unbalanced configuration to carry phantom power. Disable phantom power on connected XLR inputs and confirm that no phantom-power feed reaches the RCA equipment. If you need a phantom-powered microphone connection, ask our custom cable specialists for an appropriate balanced assembly instead.

Do not use this snake for amplifier-to-passive-speaker connections. Digital audio, DMX, and other control applications require their own compatibility checks and appropriate assemblies, not simply connectors that fit.

Plan Length and Breakout Reach

Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical and route them away from power supplies, dimmers, and other interference sources. Suitable length depends on source impedance, destination, signal level, and installation environment. This assembly does not provide the noise-rejection benefits of a balanced connection.

Measure the complete route with room for service slack, gentle bends, and equipment access while avoiding unnecessary excess cable. At both ends, measure from the breakout point to the farthest socket and allow enough individual-channel reach to patch without pulling on connectors. Discuss special breakout lengths or staggered reaches before ordering.

Check clearance around recessed or closely spaced ports, including room for connector bodies and access to XLR latches where fitted.

Channel Identification and Finishing

Use custom labels to identify channel numbers, sources, destinations, and stereo-pair assignments. Keep identification consistent from end to end, especially when channels carry signals in different directions. Discuss color coding by channel and available finishing options to simplify setup and troubleshooting.

Handling and Testing

Support the main cable and breakouts so equipment sockets do not carry the snake's weight. Avoid sharp bends, crushing, and tension where individual channels leave the main jacket. Release connector latches where fitted and disconnect by the connector body rather than pulling on the cable.

Test all eight channels with the intended equipment before installation or a show. Confirm correct mapping, left/right assignments, appropriate levels, and clean audio without hum, noise, or intermittent connections. If noise occurs, check the complete system's grounding, routing, and equipment compatibility rather than assuming the snake provides isolation.

Customization Help

If the available website options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your equipment models, XLR gender requirements, port functions and signal levels, balanced-output wiring requirements where applicable, main cable length, breakout reach at both ends, channel map, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
