Confirm Connector and Equipment Compatibility

This listing is for a 5-pin DMX assembly. Check the connector type and gender required at both ends, including the controller's output and each fixture's input and through connection. Equipment with 3-pin DMX connections requires an appropriately wired adapter or a different cable configuration; the connectors are not directly interchangeable.

A 5-pin XLR connector does not establish compatibility by itself. Confirm that both devices use compatible DMX connections and wiring. Do not assume that all five pins are used by every fixture, or that this assembly supports a manufacturer's auxiliary signals without confirming the required wiring. It is not a microphone, headphone, speaker-power, or mains-power cable.

Plan the DMX Signal Path

Follow the equipment manufacturer's guidance for connecting the controller to fixtures in a daisy chain and terminating the end of the DMX line. A cable does not replace the required terminator. For multiple branches, use an appropriate active DMX splitter rather than a passive Y-cable.

The cable carries the control connection; it does not assign fixture addresses, select operating modes, or convert between lighting-control protocols. Confirm addressing and channel-mode settings as part of system setup. Check equipment guidance for total run length, device count, and distribution requirements rather than assuming a universal maximum from the connector type.

Choose the Right Length and Routing

Measure the complete cable path with room for bends, service slack, and access to connections. Allow adequate movement clearance around moving-head fixtures without letting the cable snag or pull on sockets. Support the run independently of equipment connectors and protect it from pinching, crushing, and sharp bends.
