The RØDE PodMic in Black is an end-address dynamic XLR microphone designed for podcasting, livestreaming, voice-over, and gaming. Its speech-focused sound delivers a rich, full-bodied vocal character, while a cardioid pickup pattern helps reduce sound arriving from behind the microphone.

For a solo show, an interview desk, or a streaming setup, the PodMic combines an internal pop filter, internal shock mount, and integrated swing mount in a compact all-metal body. Position it in front of you, speak into the end of the grille, and adjust the angle to keep your recording position comfortable and consistent.

Plan your recording setup

This is the XLR PodMic, not the PodMic USB. Connect it with an XLR microphone cable to a microphone input on an audio interface, mixer, or podcast recorder. It does not connect directly to a computer by USB. The microphone itself requires no external power.

Its sensitivity is rated at −57 dB re 1 V/Pa, so choose a microphone preamp with enough clean gain for your voice and speaking distance. Set your input gain while speaking at your normal recording level rather than assuming the same setting will suit every voice.

The integrated swing mount allows angle adjustment on a suitable stand or boom arm. At 937 g, the PodMic needs support that can accommodate its weight. Listed compatible RØDE supports include the PSA1, PSA1+, and DS1.

Control plosives and vibration

The internal pop filter helps soften breath bursts on sounds such as “P” and “B,” while the internal shock mount helps reduce vibration reaching the capsule. These features support cleaner speech recordings, but microphone placement still matters. If breath noise is noticeable, try speaking slightly across the grille instead of directly into it.

The cardioid pattern helps keep the focus on your voice, but it does not eliminate room noise or reflections. Keep the microphone close enough for a clear voice recording and place unwanted sound sources toward the rear where practical.
