Description

Custom Mogami W2549 XLR-to-1/4-Inch TS Unbalanced Audio Cable

Connect compatible audio equipment with a cable built to fit your setup. Performance Audio custom builds this XLR-to-1/4-inch TS assembly using Mogami W2549 Long Run microphone cable and genuine Neutrik connectors. Choose from five cable colors, with custom labeling and finishing options to keep your connections organized.

One Cable, One Unbalanced Audio Channel

This cable carries one unbalanced mono analog audio channel between equipment with compatible signal levels and wiring. The XLR connector and microphone-cable construction do not make this TS connection balanced. The 1/4-inch TS connector does not carry separate left and right stereo channels. This is not a stereo headphone cable, insert breakout, or stereo-to-mono summing cable.

Connector fit alone does not establish compatibility. Check whether each socket is an input or output, its intended signal level, and the required XLR gender. Do not assume this assembly is interchangeable in both directions: connecting a balanced XLR output to an unbalanced TS input can require different wiring considerations from connecting an unbalanced TS output to an XLR input.

This passive cable does not convert instrument level to mic or line level, match impedances, amplify a microphone, or provide transformer isolation. It is not a substitute for a direct box or reamp box when your equipment requires one, and it is not an amplifier-to-passive-speaker cable.

Built Around Mogami W2549

  • Mogami W2549 Long Run microphone cable: the specified wire for this custom unbalanced analog audio assembly. Its Long Run designation does not guarantee an operating distance for an unbalanced connection.
  • Genuine Neutrik connectors: XLR and 1/4-inch TS connections according to your selected build options.
  • Five color options: distinguish channels, destinations, and signal paths.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options: identify connections during setup and troubleshooting.
  • Custom made to order with a lifetime warranty: a Performance Audio assembly built for your specified requirements.

Check Wiring and Power Requirements

Confirm the source and destination models and their recommended balanced-to-unbalanced wiring before ordering. Some balanced outputs require a particular treatment of the unused signal leg; do not assume an XLR pin can safely be tied to ground. Have the assembly specified for the connected equipment rather than relying on a universal pinout.

Keep phantom power disabled on any connected XLR input unless the equipment manufacturer explicitly approves the complete connection. This cable does not block phantom power or provide electrical isolation. Mute or turn down monitoring before making or removing connections.

Plan the Run Before You Order

Measure along the actual cable route, allowing slack for strain relief and equipment access without unnecessary excess. Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical, particularly with high-impedance sources, and route away from AC cables and power transformers. Cable length and connected equipment can affect noise and high-frequency response. Confirm the proposed length against your equipment and application requirements rather than relying on the wire's Long Run name.

Check connector gender, clearance around adjacent sockets, and space for connector bodies and cable exits. Support the cable so it does not pull on equipment sockets, avoid sharp bends and pinch points, and test the completed connection at a low listening level before normal use.
