Description

Custom Mogami W2947 3.5mm Stereo-to-Dual XLR Breakout Cable

Connect a compatible stereo headphone or analog audio output to two suitable XLR audio inputs while preserving left/right separation. Custom built to order by Performance Audio using Mogami W2947 dual coax cable and premium connectors, this assembly breaks a 3.5mm (1/8") TRS stereo connection out to two XLR mono connections. It is a practical way to bring playback from a suitably equipped laptop, phone, tablet, or other stereo source into compatible mixers, audio interfaces, and sound systems.

Built for Your Connections

  • Cable: Mogami W2947 dual coax cable.
  • Connection format: One 3.5mm TRS stereo connection to two separate XLR mono connections carrying unbalanced analog audio.
  • Channel separation: The XLR branches carry left and right separately, not two copies of the same mono signal.
  • Connectors: Premium connectors selected from the options available for this build. Confirm the required XLR gender for your equipment.
  • Custom build: Finished cable assembly made to order, not unterminated W2947 bulk cable.
  • Identification and finishing: Custom labeling and finishing options available.
  • Warranty: Lifetime warranty.

Stereo Breakout, Not Balanced Conversion

The 3.5mm TRS connection carries left audio on the tip, right audio on the ring, and a shared return on the sleeve. Each XLR branch carries one unbalanced mono channel. For stereo playback through a mixer, use two suitable inputs and assign left and right appropriately.

XLR connectors do not turn the source into balanced audio. This passive cable does not provide balancing, transformer isolation, or level conversion. If your setup needs balanced transmission over a longer run or isolation to address hum, discuss an appropriate interface or DI solution with our specialists.

This cable does not sum stereo to mono, duplicate a mono source, or mix signals. Do not join the branches together to combine left and right or connect two active outputs directly together. The 3.5mm TRS connection is intended for stereo audio, not a balanced mono connection or an insert send/return pair.

Check Your Source and Destination

Your source must provide compatible analog stereo audio through a 3.5mm connection. Phones, tablets, and laptops without an analog headphone jack require a compatible audio adapter or interface with analog output; this cable does not connect directly to USB-C or Lightning or convert digital audio. It does not carry a headset microphone signal or headset controls.

Confirm that each destination XLR input accepts the source's signal level and the required unbalanced wiring. An XLR socket is not automatically a line-level input, and a headphone or line-level source can overload a microphone input. Follow the equipment manufacturer's guidance on input selection, pads, and gain. Start with source volume and destination gain low, then adjust for a clean signal without clipping.

Keep phantom power off on the connected inputs unless the equipment manufacturer explicitly approves this connection. Do not assume a laptop, phone, tablet, or other headphone-output device can tolerate phantom power because an XLR adapter is being used.

This assembly is for analog audio, not AES/EBU digital audio, DMX, or other control formats that may use XLR connectors. It is not a speaker cable and must not connect a power amplifier's speaker outputs to passive speakers.

Plan Your Length and Branch Reach

Measure the complete route from the stereo source to both destination inputs, allowing room for bends, service slack, and connector access. Check how far apart the XLR sockets are and confirm the branch reach needed to connect them without strain. Discuss any special breakout-length or wiring requirements with our custom cable specialists before ordering.

Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical and route away from power supplies and AC cabling where possible to help reduce noise pickup. Check clearance around recessed headphone jacks, device cases, and XLR latches when selecting connectors.

Custom Labels and Handling

Ask about left/right labels, destination labels, and available connector color-coding or finishing options to make setup easier. Support the cable so the small 3.5mm socket does not carry its weight, and avoid pulling on the source device or straining the breakout. Release any XLR latch before removal, disconnect by the connector body rather than the cable, and test both channels before putting the setup into service.

Customization Help

If the website's configuration options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your source and destination equipment models, required XLR genders, cable length, branch reach, connector-clearance needs, and any labeling, finishing, or wiring requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
