Description

Custom 8-Channel XLR to RCA Audio Snake with Mogami W2932

Organize eight compatible unbalanced analog audio connections between XLR and RCA equipment in one finished assembly. Performance Audio builds this snake using Mogami W2932 cable and professional connector options for studio, rack, and playback setups that would otherwise require eight separate main cables.

Built for Your Setup

  • Mogami W2932 8-channel audio snake cable.
  • XLR connections at one end and RCA connections at the other.
  • Professional connector options available through this listing.
  • Eight independent unbalanced mono paths, or four stereo pairs using two channels per pair.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom made to order as a finished assembly, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Eight Separate Unbalanced Audio Paths

Each XLR-to-RCA channel carries one unbalanced mono signal. Stereo normally needs two channels, one for left and one for right, allowing up to four stereo pairs with compatible equipment. This snake does not mix channels, split signals, sum stereo to mono, or combine outputs. An XLR connector does not make a path balanced when the connection uses unbalanced RCA wiring.

This is the XLR-to-RCA format, not a per-channel mixed-connector or per-side preset listing. Review the available XLR genders and build options against your equipment. The connector names identify the ends, not a universal signal direction; confirm the source, destination, and appropriate wiring for each application.

Confirm XLR Gender, Wiring, and Signal Level

Check the required XLR gender at every equipment port and whether the connection carries microphone-level or line-level audio. Changing connector format does not provide microphone preamplification, line-to-mic attenuation, active level conversion, balancing, or transformer isolation.

When connecting a balanced XLR output to an unbalanced RCA input, confirm the output manufacturer's recommended wiring before ordering. Some output designs require specific treatment of the unused signal conductor; do not assume it can safely be grounded. For an RCA output feeding an XLR input, confirm input wiring and sensitivity. The cable does not turn an unbalanced source into a balanced signal.

Consumer RCA equipment and professional XLR equipment can have different operating levels. Check output level, input sensitivity, and available headroom to avoid weak signals or clipping. A microphone still needs a suitable microphone preamplifier, and a line output may overload a microphone input.

RCA Analog Audio Is Not Phono, Digital, or Video Conversion

RCA sockets may carry analog line-level audio, phono signals, coaxial S/PDIF digital audio, or video. These formats are not interchangeable simply because the plugs fit. This Mogami W2932 audio snake is not a specified 75-ohm coaxial digital or video assembly, and it does not convert analog audio to digital or translate AES/EBU to S/PDIF.

A turntable's phono output needs appropriate loading and a suitable phono preamplifier. This snake does not supply phono gain or equalization. Confirm cable-length and capacitance requirements before planning a phono-level connection, and handle any separate turntable ground according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

Phantom Power and Specialized Applications

Do not apply phantom power to these unbalanced paths or assume this build can power a condenser microphone. Keep phantom power disabled on connected XLR inputs and confirm the complete setup is safe before connecting equipment. If phantom power is required, discuss a suitable balanced microphone connection instead.

This assembly is for analog signal connections, not speaker power, AC mains, or a guaranteed digital or DMX application. An XLR connector alone does not establish compatibility with digital, lighting-control, or power signals. Do not connect amplifier speaker outputs through this snake.

Plan for Unbalanced Run Length

Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical, particularly near power supplies, lighting equipment, and other interference sources. Mogami W2932 cable does not make the connection balanced or eliminate ground-loop noise. For longer routes or noisy environments, discuss a suitable balanced interface or audio isolation solution for your equipment.

Suitable length depends on the complete source, destination, signal level, and installation environment. Route audio away from likely interference sources where practical and avoid long parallel runs beside power cables.

Plan Main Length and Breakout Reach

Measure the complete route with room for service slack, gentle bends, and equipment access. At both ends, measure from the breakout point to the farthest socket so every channel reaches without tension. Confirm special breakout lengths or staggered reaches before the build is finalized.

Check clearance around recessed or closely spaced RCA sockets and XLR ports, including room to grip connector bodies and operate XLR latches where fitted. Support the main cable rather than letting its weight hang from equipment sockets.

Channel Labels and Finishing

Map channels 1 through 8 to their source and destination ports before ordering. Label both ends consistently with channel numbers, equipment names, or left/right assignments for stereo pairs. Identify signal direction where needed. Discuss color coding by channel and available finishing options to simplify patching and troubleshooting.

Handling and Testing

Avoid sharp bends, crushing, and tension where individual channels leave the main jacket. Release XLR latches where fitted and disconnect by the connector body rather than pulling on the cable. Support the main cable and breakouts so equipment sockets do not carry the assembly's weight.

Test all eight paths with the intended equipment before installation or a show, with phantom power disabled. Check channel mapping, correct levels, stereo left/right assignments, and clean audio without hum, noise, clipping, or intermittent connections. Never join two active outputs together. If hum occurs, investigate the signal chain and use an appropriate audio isolation solution when needed; never defeat equipment safety grounds.

Customization Help

If the available options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your equipment models, required XLR genders, source and destination ports, signal levels, main cable length, breakout reach at each end, channel map, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
