Description

Custom 8-Channel XLR-to-TRS Audio Snake with Canare MS202-8P

Keep eight balanced analog audio connections organized between compatible mixers, interfaces, patchbays, and outboard equipment. Performance Audio custom builds this snake using Canare MS202-8P cable and professional XLR and 1/4-inch TRS connectors, with length, labeling, and finishing options to suit your studio, rack, or live-sound setup.

Built for Your Connections

  • Canare MS202-8P 8-channel audio snake cable.
  • XLR connections at one end and 1/4-inch TRS connections at the other, using the professional connector options available for this build.
  • Eight separate balanced mono audio paths when connected to compatible balanced equipment.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom-built finished assembly, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Eight Mono Channels or Four Stereo Pairs

Each channel provides one independent mono signal path. A balanced stereo connection normally uses two channels, one for left and one for right, so this snake can connect four stereo pairs when the equipment has separate compatible left and right ports.

The channels remain separate: this assembly does not mix signals, split an output, or combine outputs. The XLR-to-TRS designation describes the connector arrangement rather than a fixed signal direction. Connect each source output to the appropriate destination input, using the correct XLR gender for the equipment.

Confirm XLR Gender, Port Function, and Levels

Confirm the required XLR gender on every channel before ordering. An XLR connection can carry microphone-level or line-level analog audio, or a different signal format, so check the actual function and level of each equipment port. A connector change does not provide microphone preamplification, line-to-mic attenuation, impedance matching, or digital conversion.

This configuration is intended for balanced mono analog connections. A 1/4-inch TRS socket may instead carry stereo headphones, a stereo unbalanced signal, or an insert send/return. Those uses are not interchangeable with balanced mono simply because the plug fits. This snake is not an insert breakout, headphone splitter, or stereo-to-dual-mono adapter.

Both equipment ports and the assembly wiring must support the intended balanced connection. If either device is unbalanced, follow its manufacturer's wiring guidance and discuss the appropriate build with our custom cable specialists. This passive snake does not balance an unbalanced source or provide transformer isolation.

Phantom Power and Specialized Signals

If phantom power is needed for a microphone path, confirm that the complete wiring, patching system, and every connected device support it. Do not assume a TRS line input supplies phantom power or that every XLR-to-TRS connection is suitable for a phantom-powered microphone.

Disable phantom power before repatching, particularly before inserting or removing TRS plugs, whose contacts can momentarily connect during insertion. Do not route phantom power to incompatible line-level or unbalanced equipment.

This listing is for an analog audio snake, not a speaker-power cable or a guaranteed AES/EBU or DMX assembly. Discuss digital, control, or other specialized requirements before ordering rather than relying on connector fit.

Plan Main Length and Breakout Reach

Measure the complete cable route with room for service slack, gentle bends, and equipment access. At both ends, measure from the breakout point to the farthest socket and allow enough individual-channel reach to patch without pulling on connectors. Discuss special breakout lengths or staggered reaches before ordering.

Check clearance around recessed or closely spaced ports, including room for the selected connector bodies and access to XLR latches where fitted. Run-length suitability depends on the source, destination, signal level, balanced or unbalanced operation, and installation environment.

Channel Identification and Finishing

Use custom labels to identify channel numbers, sources, destinations, and stereo-pair assignments. Keep identification consistent from end to end, especially when signals travel in different directions within the same assembly. Discuss color coding by channel and available finishing options to simplify setup and troubleshooting.

Handling and Testing

Support the main cable and breakouts so equipment sockets do not carry the snake's weight. Avoid sharp bends, crushing, and tension where individual channels leave the main jacket. Release XLR latches where fitted and disconnect by the connector body rather than pulling on the cable.

Test all eight channels with the intended equipment before installation or a show. Confirm correct mapping, left/right assignments for stereo pairs, appropriate levels, and clean audio without hum, noise, or intermittent connections. Test phantom-powered microphone paths only after confirming the complete connection is suitable. Never join two active outputs together.

Customization Help

If the available website options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your equipment models, XLR gender requirements, port functions and signal levels, main cable length, breakout reach at both ends, channel map, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
