Description

Custom 8-Channel TS-to-TS Audio Snake with Canare MS202-8P

Keep eight unbalanced audio connections organized between compatible keyboards, sound modules, mixers, effects, and other equipment. Performance Audio custom builds this snake using Canare MS202-8P cable and professional 1/4-inch TS connectors at both ends, with length, labeling, and finishing options to suit your setup.

Built for Your Connections

  • Canare MS202-8P 8-channel audio snake cable.
  • 1/4-inch TS connections at both ends of each channel, using the professional connector options available for this build.
  • Eight separate unbalanced mono audio paths.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom-built finished assembly, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Eight Mono Channels or Four Stereo Pairs

Each channel provides one independent unbalanced mono connection. A stereo connection normally uses two channels, one for left and one for right, so this snake can connect four stereo pairs when the equipment has separate compatible left and right ports.

The channels remain separate: this assembly does not mix signals, split an output, or combine outputs. Connect each source output to the appropriate destination input, never output to output.

Confirm Unbalanced TS Compatibility

This configuration is intended for compatible unbalanced analog audio connections. A 1/4-inch socket may instead carry balanced mono audio, stereo headphones, an insert send/return, a speaker-level signal, or a control function. Confirm each port's actual purpose rather than relying on connector fit.

If connecting a balanced output to an unbalanced input, check the equipment manufacturer's wiring guidance and confirm the appropriate assembly with our custom cable specialists. Some balanced outputs require specific treatment of the unused signal conductor. Do not assume inserting a TS plug into a TRS socket is suitable for every output.

This passive snake does not balance an unbalanced signal, provide transformer isolation, match impedances, or convert microphone, instrument, and line levels. It is not a stereo-headphone adapter or an insert breakout, and it must not be used for amplifier-to-passive-speaker connections or phantom-power feeds. Digital audio and control applications require their own purpose-built compatibility checks.

Unbalanced Runs and Instrument Sources

Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical for your setup and route them away from power supplies, dimmers, and other interference sources. Suitable length depends on the source impedance, destination, signal level, and installation environment; this assembly does not provide the noise-rejection benefits of a balanced connection.

Passive guitars, basses, and other high-impedance sources can be more sensitive to cable loading and long runs. Do not assume a multichannel snake is interchangeable with a dedicated instrument cable for every application. A suitable direct box or buffer may be the better choice when routing passive instruments over distance. Discuss your equipment and required length before ordering if unsure.

Plan Main Length and Breakout Reach

Measure the complete routing path with room for service slack, gentle bends, and equipment access while avoiding unnecessary excess cable. At both ends, measure from the breakout point to the farthest socket and allow enough individual-channel reach to patch without pulling on connectors. Discuss special breakout lengths or staggered reaches before ordering.

Check clearance around recessed or closely spaced jacks and allow room for the selected connector bodies. Confirm the channel map before the build is finalized, especially when signals travel in different directions within the same assembly.

Channel Identification and Finishing

Use custom labels to identify channel numbers, sources, destinations, or stereo-pair assignments. Keep identification consistent from end to end so left/right pairs remain easy to trace. Discuss color coding by channel and available finishing options to simplify installation and troubleshooting.

Handling and Testing

Support the main cable and breakouts so equipment sockets do not carry the snake's weight. Avoid sharp bends, crushing, and tension where individual channels leave the main jacket. Disconnect by the connector body rather than pulling on the cable.

Test all eight channels with the intended equipment before installation or a show. Confirm correct channel mapping, left/right assignments for stereo pairs, appropriate levels, and clean audio without hum, noise, or intermittent connections. If noise occurs, check the full system's grounding, routing, and equipment compatibility rather than assuming the cable provides isolation.

Customization Help

If the available website options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your equipment models, port functions and signal levels, main cable length, breakout reach at both ends, channel map, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
