Description

Custom 8-Channel AES/EBU Digital Audio Snake with Mogami W3162

Organize multiple AES/EBU connections in one custom-built assembly. Performance Audio builds this snake with Mogami W3162 8-channel 110-ohm AES/EBU cable and genuine Neutrik connectors, with length, labeling, and finishing options to suit your studio, rack, or live-production system.

Built for Your Digital Audio Connections

  • Mogami W3162 8-channel 110-ohm AES/EBU digital audio snake cable.
  • Genuine Neutrik connectors.
  • Eight separate physical AES/EBU signal paths in one assembly.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom-built finished snake, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Eight Cable Paths, Equipment-Dependent Audio Channel Count

The eight-channel designation describes the snake's eight physical signal paths, not necessarily the total number of digital audio channels. In standard two-channel AES3 operation, each path can carry two audio channels, allowing up to sixteen audio channels when supported by the connected equipment.

Confirm your equipment's AES/EBU port assignments, sample rates, and operating modes before ordering. Some equipment uses multiple AES paths for higher-sample-rate modes, which can reduce the number of audio channels carried by a given set of connections. This passive snake does not split, combine, route, or convert digital audio.

Confirm Format, Connectors, and Clocking

Use this assembly with compatible balanced 110-ohm AES/EBU connections. Confirm the connector type and gender at each end, the output-to-input direction for every path, and any equipment-specific wiring requirements. Connector fit alone does not establish signal compatibility: an XLR socket may carry analog audio or another signal rather than AES/EBU.

This snake does not convert coaxial S/PDIF, optical TOSLINK, ADAT, USB, HDMI, or network audio to AES/EBU. Equipment requiring a different digital interface or impedance may need a suitable converter or impedance-matching device rather than a simple connector adapter.

Set compatible sample rates and clock-source settings on the connected equipment. The cable does not generate a master clock, resolve clock conflicts, perform sample-rate conversion, or reclock the signal. Keep digital connections separate from microphone inputs and phantom-power feeds.

Plan Main Length and Breakout Reach

Measure the complete routing path with room for service loops, rack access, and gentle bends. Check the distance from each breakout point to the farthest equipment socket at both ends, and allow enough individual-channel reach to patch without pulling on connectors. Confirm any special breakout-length requirements before ordering.

Usable distance depends on the AES/EBU operating mode, sample rate, transmitter and receiver capabilities, and the complete installed path, including patch panels, adapters, and couplers. Do not assume a universal maximum run length or guaranteed operation at every sample rate. Provide your equipment models and intended operating mode when planning a demanding run.

Channel Mapping, Labels, and Finishing

Create a path-by-path connection map before ordering. Identify the source, destination, direction, and audio-pair assignment for each of the eight cable paths so physical channel numbers are not confused with individual digital audio channels.

Use custom labels and available finishing options to make both ends easy to identify. Discuss color coding by channel if needed, and keep the channel identification consistent from end to end. Clear mapping makes a dense rack easier to patch and troubleshoot.

Handling and System Testing

Support the main cable and breakouts so equipment sockets do not carry the snake's weight. Avoid sharp bends, crushed cable, and tension where individual channels leave the main jacket. Release connector latches and disconnect by the connector body rather than pulling on the cable.

Test all eight paths through the complete installed system at the intended sample rate and operating mode. Confirm stable digital lock, correct audio-pair assignments, and clean playback without clicks, dropouts, or intermittent connections. Include any patch panels, adapters, and couplers in the test, and recheck clock settings if receivers do not lock reliably.

Customization Help

If the available website options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your equipment models, AES/EBU mode and sample rate, connector and gender requirements, channel map, main cable length, breakout reach at both ends, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
