Description

Custom AES/EBU DB25-to-DB25 Snake with Mogami W3162

Keep compatible multichannel digital-audio connections organized with a custom-built DB25-to-DB25 assembly. Performance Audio builds this snake using Mogami W3162 8-channel 110-ohm AES/EBU cable, with custom labeling and finishing options for your studio or equipment rack.

Built for Your Digital Audio System

  • Mogami W3162 8-channel 110-ohm AES/EBU digital audio snake cable.
  • DB25 connections at both ends, with wiring to be confirmed for your equipment.
  • Eight physical AES/EBU cable paths within one finished assembly.
  • Custom labeling and finishing options.
  • Custom made to order, not unterminated bulk cable.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Confirm the DB25 Pinout Before Ordering

DB25 describes the connector shape, not a universal digital-audio wiring standard. Confirm the AES/EBU pinout, connector gender, channel assignments, and input/output arrangement for both devices. Different manufacturers and equipment families can use different DB25 digital pinouts, and an analog-audio DB25 cable is not automatically an appropriate substitute.

Provide the equipment models and their connector wiring diagrams so our custom cable specialists can confirm the correct end-to-end mapping. Do not assume a straight-through connection, a particular manufacturer's pinout, or compatibility simply because both devices have DB25 sockets.

Some digital DB25 ports combine transmit and receive paths on the same connector. The cable must connect each output to the appropriate input rather than join outputs together. Confirm the required mapping at both ends, including any crossover arrangement, before the build is finalized.

Physical Paths Versus Audio Channels

The eight-channel cable designation refers to eight physical signal paths, not necessarily eight audio channels in one direction. In standard two-channel AES3 operation, each AES/EBU path can carry two audio channels. The usable audio-channel count and direction depend on how your equipment assigns the DB25 pins and operates its digital ports.

For example, equipment that allocates four AES paths to transmit and four to receive can carry eight audio channels in each direction in standard two-channel AES3 mode. This is not the same as sixteen audio channels traveling in one direction. Higher-sample-rate modes that use multiple AES paths can further change the available audio-channel count. Confirm the actual port configuration and operating mode in your equipment documentation.

Digital Format and Clocking Compatibility

This assembly is intended for compatible balanced 110-ohm AES/EBU connections. It does not convert analog audio, coaxial S/PDIF, optical TOSLINK, ADAT, USB, HDMI, or network audio to AES/EBU. A different interface may require suitable conversion equipment rather than a passive connector change.

Set compatible sample rates and clock-source settings on the connected devices. The cable does not generate a master clock, resolve clock conflicts, perform sample-rate conversion, amplify, or reclock the signal. Confirm stable receiver lock after connecting the system.

Length, Connector Clearance, and Routing

Measure the complete route between devices, allowing room for gentle bends, service slack, and access behind the rack. Check that the DB25 connector housings fit beside neighboring sockets and that the fastening hardware matches the equipment. Avoid forcing mismatched hardware or placing cable tension on the ports.

Usable distance depends on the sample rate, AES/EBU operating mode, transmitter and receiver capabilities, and the complete signal path, including adapters and patch points. Do not assume a universal maximum run length or guaranteed operation at every sample rate. Provide your equipment models and intended operating mode when planning a demanding run.

Labels and Connection Mapping

Use custom labels to identify the equipment at each end, port names, and the applicable pinout or wiring configuration. Keep a connection map showing the AES pairs, their audio-channel assignments, and their direction. Clear documentation makes a bidirectional DB25 connection easier to patch and troubleshoot without confusing physical pairs with individual audio channels.

Handling and System Testing

Support the cable so the DB25 ports do not carry its weight. Avoid sharp bends, crushing, and tension at the connector housings. Release fastening hardware before disconnecting and pull on the connector body rather than the cable.

Test every assigned transmit and receive path through the complete installed system at the intended sample rate and operating mode. Confirm stable digital lock, correct channel mapping in both directions where applicable, and clean audio without clicks, dropouts, or intermittent connections. Include any adapters or patch points in the test.

Customization Help

If the website's options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide both equipment models, DB25 pinout diagrams, connector genders and fastening requirements, input/output mapping, AES/EBU mode and sample rate, cable length, and labeling or finishing requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
