Description

Custom Mogami W2314 3.5mm TRS-to-TRRS Recording Adapter Cable

Plan a recording connection from compatible external audio equipment to a smartphone or tablet's analog headset input. Performance Audio builds this 3.5mm TRS-to-TRRS recording adapter cable to order using Mogami W2314 instrument cable and professional connectors. Intended for line-source recording applications, the finished build must match your source output, receiving device, and any audio adapter in the signal path.

Built for Your Connections

  • Cable: Mogami W2314 instrument cable.
  • Connection format: 3.5mm TRS-to-TRRS adapter for compatible smartphone and tablet recording setups.
  • Connectors: Professional connectors selected from the options available for this build.
  • Color: Available in black.
  • Custom build: Finished cable assembly made to order, not unterminated W2314 bulk cable.
  • Identification and finishing: Custom labeling and finishing options available.
  • Warranty: Lifetime warranty.

Confirm Signal Level Before Connecting

A smartphone's TRRS headset microphone input is not the same as a conventional line-level input. A line or headphone output may overload it without appropriate attenuation or interfacing. Before ordering, ask our custom cable specialists to confirm the selected build's wiring, whether attenuation is included, and whether additional level matching or microphone-bias blocking is required for your equipment. Do not assume that changing the connector alone makes a line-level signal suitable for a headset input.

Provide the exact source equipment and receiving device models, along with the output you intend to use. Confirm any required attenuation and interfacing before connecting. Never connect a power amplifier's speaker output to this adapter.

TRS and TRRS Compatibility

TRS connectors have three contacts; TRRS connectors have four. A 3.5mm TRS socket may carry stereo headphone audio, balanced mono audio, or another signal depending on the equipment. Confirm which source contacts the build uses rather than assuming it accepts every TRS output.

TRRS headset standards such as CTIA/AHJ and OMTP differ in their microphone and ground assignments. Confirm the required standard and pinout for your receiving device and selected build. An iOS or Android label alone does not guarantee compatibility with every phone, tablet, or accessory.

A typical headset microphone input records a mono signal. Do not assume this cable records stereo or combines both channels of a stereo output. Confirm whether the build uses one source channel or an appropriate summing circuit; left and right active outputs must not be directly tied together.

Check Your Phone, Adapter, and Recording App

The receiving device must support an external analog microphone through its headset connection. Devices without a suitable 3.5mm socket require a compatible audio adapter or interface. For USB-C or Lightning connections, confirm that the adapter supports microphone input, not just headphone playback. This cable does not itself convert analog audio to USB or Lightning.

Check that your recording or calling app recognizes the external input and supports your intended workflow. The cable does not guarantee app compatibility, stereo recording, headset-button operation, or simultaneous monitoring. If you need reliable stereo line-level recording or more control over input gain, discuss a suitable audio interface with our specialists.

Choose Your Length and Routing

Measure the complete route with room for bends, service slack, and normal device movement. Check connector clearance around recessed sockets and protective cases. Keep the run as short as practical and route away from power supplies and AC cabling where possible to help reduce noise pickup.

Custom Labels and Handling

Ask about source and device labels, signal-direction identification, and available finishing options. Support the cable so small device sockets do not carry its weight. Avoid sharp bends and pulling on connected equipment, and disconnect by the connector body rather than the cable.

After compatibility and level matching have been confirmed, begin with the source output low and make a short test recording. Check for clipping, hum, correct input selection, and the intended source-channel routing before using the setup for an important recording.

Customization Help

If the website's configuration options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your source and receiving device models, audio-adapter model, output type and level, headset wiring standard, cable length, and any labeling or finishing requests. Confirm the required attenuation, wiring, pricing, and build timeline before ordering.
