Description

Custom Mogami W2947 3.5mm Stereo-to-Dual 3.5mm Mono Breakout Cable

Separate a compatible 3.5mm stereo audio output into individual left and right mono connections. Custom built to order by Performance Audio using Mogami W2947 dual coax cable and premium connectors, this assembly connects one 3.5mm (1/8") TRS stereo connection to two 3.5mm TS mono connections. It helps organize playback connections between a suitably equipped laptop, phone, tablet, or other stereo source and equipment with compatible mono audio inputs.

Built for Your Connections

  • Cable: Mogami W2947 dual coax cable.
  • Connection format: One 3.5mm TRS stereo connection to two separate 3.5mm TS unbalanced mono connections.
  • Channel separation: The TS branches carry left and right separately, not two copies of the same mono signal.
  • Connectors: Premium connectors selected from the options available for this build.
  • Custom build: Finished cable assembly made to order, not unterminated W2947 bulk cable.
  • Identification and finishing: Custom labeling and finishing options available.
  • Warranty: Lifetime warranty.

Stereo Breakout, Not a Headphone Splitter

The stereo TRS connection carries left audio on the tip, right audio on the ring, and a shared return on the sleeve. Each TS branch carries one unbalanced mono channel. Connect the left and right branches to their intended mono audio inputs to preserve channel assignments.

This is not a splitter for two pairs of stereo headphones. Each branch carries only one side of the original stereo signal, and its TS connector is not a stereo headphone connection. The cable does not duplicate the complete stereo program, sum stereo to mono, or provide balanced outputs.

Do not join the branches together to combine left and right or connect two active outputs directly together. If you need mono playback, use suitable mixing or summing equipment. Do not assume compatibility with balanced mono TRS or insert send/return connections simply because the plug fits.

Check Your Source and Destination

Your source must provide compatible analog stereo audio through a 3.5mm connection. Phones, tablets, and laptops without an analog headphone jack require a compatible audio adapter or interface with analog output; this cable does not connect directly to USB-C or Lightning or convert digital audio. It does not carry a headset microphone signal or headset controls.

Confirm that each destination accepts a 3.5mm TS mono audio connection and the source's signal level. A 3.5mm socket may instead be wired for stereo audio, a headset, a microphone, control voltage, or another purpose. Connector size alone does not establish compatibility, including on synthesizers and modular equipment.

This passive cable does not provide microphone preamplification, level conversion, or isolation. Do not assume a headphone or line-level source is suitable for a microphone input or an input supplying plug-in power. Follow the connected equipment's requirements. Start with source volume and destination gain low, then adjust for a clean signal without clipping.

This assembly carries analog audio signals only. It is not a speaker cable and must not connect a power amplifier's speaker outputs to passive speakers.

Plan Your Length and Branch Reach

Measure the complete route from the stereo source to both destination inputs, allowing room for bends, service slack, and connector access. Check how far apart the two mono inputs are and confirm the branch reach needed to connect them without strain. Discuss any special breakout-length requirements with our custom cable specialists before ordering.

Keep unbalanced runs as short as practical and route away from power supplies and AC cabling where possible to help reduce noise pickup. Check clearance around recessed sockets, device cases, and closely spaced equipment jacks when selecting connectors.

Custom Labels and Handling

Ask about left/right labels, destination labels, and available connector color-coding or finishing options to make setup easier. Support the cable so the small 3.5mm sockets do not carry its weight, and avoid pulling on connected devices or straining the breakout. Disconnect by the connector body rather than the cable, and test both channels before putting the setup into service.

Customization Help

If the website's configuration options do not cover your needs, call or email Performance Audio's custom cable specialists. Provide your source and destination equipment models, required cable length, branch reach, connector-clearance needs, and any labeling, finishing, or wiring requests so we can confirm the build details. Confirm pricing and the build timeline before ordering if you have a deadline.
